+ Major label EMI are making waves this Xmas by releasing DRM-free tracks by Lilly Allen and Norah Jones. Breaking the longtime trend, EMI are allowing these tracks to be available for unrestricted downloads in MP3 format. They will closely be monitoring the sales of these artists as major labels are beginning to realize the potential sales impact of DRM-free music.
+ Sony Music Studios has launched a new service that allows artists to have their tracks mastered through an online ingestion process. An artist can upload up to 4 tracks and have mastered copies sent back to them within 2 days. The service is tailored for independent artists who are taking the DIY route like indiestore.
indiestore - location, location, location !!
We know we've mentioned this before but we had to re-feature our location based search because talent a&r's have been talking to us about trying to find artists in their region.
One particular a&r we're really excited about is Northern Monkie Promotions. They are searching for artists based outside of London to showcase in front of music industry veterans.
How: tab into the Artist Detail page of your indiestore manager and type in your city, country and territory. Include as many locations as you like.
indiestore charities:
The Holiday Season is upon us and indiestore has become the destination for a handful of artists donating their profits to charities. These dedicated artists are raising money for charities including Shelter, Crisis, Tommy's and Stop the War Coalition.

The indiestore recommends is brought to us from a panel of writers whose work has appeared in mixmag, muzik, melody maker, nme, zoo and rolling stone. Get your music reviewed and placed not only on our homepage, but across various independent music sites. Take a look.

A musical mish-mash skating a line somewhere between The Streets and Kings Of Convenience. Potentially tongue tying rhymes skip over a groovesome summery backing track that Electronic in their prime would have been proud of.
'Think,' it says of Melbourne's B-Dolls, 'Y2K Carpenters reprogrammed by disco robots'. And it sort of is. Think warm electro pop that makes all the right noises in all the right places. Oh, and find an Aussie and ask them what a b-doll is. You'll wish you hadn't.
