indiestore insider 9 - Win an MP3 player with indiestore

+ British band The Futureheads have left their major label tie up with 679/Warner Music in order for more freedom for their next album. Speaking to BBC 6 Music, front man Barry Hyde had the following to say: “I'm over the moon about it to be honest with you, ‘cos I feel like we're free now. We weren't happy as a band on that label…It's good to get out of the shackles of being tied down to something. I think it's put us in a very strong position ‘cos we're still a band that people like.”

+ In the US, Black Friday, the beginning of the Christmas shopping season, renewed the digital music player war. New entrants this season include the Microsoft Zune, the new iPod Shuffle and iRiver's 4gb Clix. With holiday sales up 18% compared to last year, the digital music market is sure to capture the strength in this upturn.

+ The much debated UK copyright extension appeal by the British music industry seems to have been rejected by an independent government review. The Gowers Review of Intellectual Property, to be officially released next week, recommended against extending the UK copyright term from 50 years to 95 years. Reported through the BBC, the current copyright term would remain in line with the EU and not the US's 95 year term.

Laura B ' Midi A Minuit' East Models 'Slow It Down'

The deeply chilled outings from this French solo artist have already graced the nation's airwaves thanks to Pete Tong and Chris Coco. On the strength of this debut offering from her own Fantastic Recordings imprint, Laura B's rise won't be as gentle as her music.

Hailing from The Kola Peninsula (look it up!), East Models are a little out of the ordinary which is why we're liking them. The clumsy intro does 'Slow It Down' few favours, but stick with it because once it gets going it's a real treat. Think Fun Lovin' Criminals covering Stereo MCs… in Russian.
