    V2 Records, home of the White Stripes, Moby and Dogs Die in Hot Cars, has shut its record label operations to pursue a catalogue business. V2 will no longer release any albums from its current artist roster which have essentially become free agents. V2 UK is not affected by this move.
    Warner Music has bought out independent digital distributor Zebralution, a company based in Germany. Details have no emerged but this signals a significant move by a major label entering the digital distribution chain. But what does this signal for the music industry and for the independent labels currently distributed by Zebralution?

    The IFPI (the international music trade body) released its 2006 digital music report and estimated that digital music revenue in 2006 were $2 billion. It also stated that digital music accounts for 10% of the music market with the digital music catalogue doubling to 4 million tracks. Read more here...
